A Jacuzzi® Hot Tub can be the perfect place to relax, entertain and spend time with family. But cleaning it is probably not at the top of your to-do list. However, regular Hot Tub maintenance will make sure you can enjoy your Hot Tub for years to come.
One of the most important parts of the cleaning system in your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub is the filter. This should be well maintained to keep your Hot Tub clean and healthy. Keeping your Hot Tub filter clean not only can help prolong the life of your Hot Tub, but can actually help you save money.
Contaminants, such as dirt and debris, are removed when the circulation pump or massage pump push water through the filter. The amount of water pumped through the filtration system will vary depending on the make and model of Hot Tub you own. The Hot Tub filter keeps your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub healthy and clean by working in conjunction with chemicals and sanitisers.
Hot Tub Filter Cleaning: Dos and Don’ts
DO NOT use household cleaning products
Not only could these products reduce the lifespan of your filter by damaging the fibres they could also cause further damage to your hot tub and if they are not removed correctly. Whilst bleach and other household cleaning products are great at cleaning your kitchen and bathroom, they have not been specifically designed for or tested on hot tub filters and can be harmful to your skin.
DO NOT use your dishwasher to clean the Hot Tub filter
Not only could you damage your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub filter and dishwasher you could also reduce the effectiveness of your filter which in turn could cause damage to your hot tub.
DO NOT use your washing machine to clean your filter.
As with a dishwasher, you could damage your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub filter by placing it in the washing machine. The banging against the metal drum of your washing machine could cause the plastic to crack. The detergents developed for washing clothes have not been tested on the Hot Tub filter and could have a detrimental effect. It will also cause unwanted foam in your tub.
DO inspect your filter before replacing.
You should always take a closer look at your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub filter before replacing it to ensure that all traces of dirt and debris have been removed. It is also very important to check for signs of wear and tear, particularly if your Hot Tub filter is nearing the end of its lifespan. Look for cracks around all visible plastic and ensure there are no rips or tears in the main body of the filter.
DO let your filter dry naturally
High quality filters are designed to withstand varied temperatures but applying direct heat such as a hairdryer or even placing it on a radiator could warp and damage the plastic or effect the performance of your filter.
DO make sure you have a filter fitted in your Hot Tub before turning it on.
As we have already mentioned, the Jacuzzi® Hot Tub filter removes dirt and debris ensuring the water is kept clean. It is also an important part to stop the debris from being sucked into the pump and causing damage. The pump is one of the more expensive parts to replace, therefore we do not recommend running your hot tub without a filter.
