What Hot Tub chemicals do I need for my Jacuzzi® Hot Tub?

Consumers are often under the impression that the maintenance of a Jacuzzi® Hot Tub is extremely difficult, which is only true if inadequate or no training has been given – but with us there is no need to worry as the team at Hydrolife will be with you every step of the way! So, whether you have just invested in your brand new Jacuzzi® Hot Tub or you are exercising your due diligence before you purchase the perfect hot tub, the Hydrolife team are here to give you all of the information that you will need to ensure that your hot tub lives a long and happy life!

Why do I need to use Hot Tub chemicals in my hot tub?
In order to maintain the quality and life of your Jacuzzi® hot tub, it is crucial that you regularly test, clean and dose the water with chemicals. The water in your hot tub isn’t going to be drained after each use, and due to the temperature of the water this can leave an opportunity for nasty bacteria to develop which can cause an array of issues to bathers. The correct level of Hot Tub chemicals will sanitise and balance the hot tub water so that you can enjoy your daily dose of hydrotherapy without a care in the world!

What chemicals do I need?
By now, if you have been doing your research, you will have seen an overwhelming number of products out there but please rest assured that you will not need every single one of them to maintain your hot tub! When you order your Jacuzzi® Hot Tub with Hydrolife, you have the option to purchase the Must Have Collection which includes a chemical starter pack, plus other essentials to get you started, click here to find out more! We at Hydrolife would recommend you have the following:

Test Strips – Jacuzzi® hot tub 3-way test strips will become your best friend when it comes to spa water maintenance, these simple 3-way strips take a matter of seconds to show you what your water needs to keep it balanced, then all you have to do take the appropriate action based on the test strip result – it really is that simple!

Sanitisers – At Hydrolife we will always recommend using bromine granules and tablets for your spa sanitisation due to Bromine performing fantastically well at high temperatures, without being an irritant to the skin. The ideal level should sit between 3ppm and 5ppm.

pH Balancing – It is important that there is a perfect balance of pH in your Jacuzzi® hot tub, between 7.2 and 7.6 is where you need to aim anything above or below this can cause problems such as cloudy water. When an imbalance occurs, you will need to either add pH Plus or pH Minus to stabilise the level.

Total Alkalinity – Alkalinity plays a really big part in balancing your Jacuzzi® hot tub water, if the alkalinity level in your water isn’t correct then it will be really difficult for you to balance the pH level as alkalinity acts as a pH buffer, keeping it from drastically changing. To balance the alkalinity, you will need to use TA Alkalinity Increaser or pH Minus which will bring down both alkalinity and pH levels.

Other chemicals that we at Hydrolife would recommend that you have in your cupboard for further maintenance are; Non-Chlorine Shock (to be used weekly or after heavy use to give the bromine levels a boost and keep your Jacuzzi® hot tub water sanitised), Spa Clear (to be used whenever is necessary, this helps to resolve cloudy water by coagulating tiny particles so that they are big enough for the filter to collect and remove them), No Foam (to be used as and when foam appears, although foam is not harmful some hot tub users find it unsightly).

Hydrolife’s Chemical Dosing Top Tips:

  • Always pre-dissolve chemicals in water in a clean container (preferably one that you set aside just for chemical mixing)
  • Always add chemicals to water and not water to chemicals
  • It is always best to add small amounts of chemicals; little and often (It is much easier to raise levels of chemicals than reduce)
  • Only add one chemical at a time
  • Never add chemicals to your hot tub when it is in use
  • Always read the label and follow the instructions carefully for any chemical

Overall, it will only take approximately 15 minutes of your time each week to test your water and make sure that the chemicals are balanced; which in our opinion is a fantastic deal if it means you’ll have many years of relaxation, fun and family time in your Jacuzzi® hot tub – priceless!
