Do I need chlorine with ClearRay®?
ClearRay® systems are designed to work in conjunction with a hot tub’s existing filtration and chemical systems to provide an additional level of water purification. While ClearRay® can help reduce the need for a chemical sanitiser (chlorine/bromine), it is not a replacement. You will still need to use either chlorine or bromine to maintain a safe and healthy water quality. ClearRay and a chemical sanitizer work together to provide a balanced water treatment.
How much chlorine do you put in ClearRay®?
ClearRay® is not a chemical, it is a UV-C technology sanitation system which works alongside your regular Jacuzzi® Hot Tub maintenance routine. This routine would include adding either chlorine or bromine to keep your water clean. Regular water testing and relacing the ClearRay® bulb yearly is recommended to keep your water clean and safe.
Is UV light better than chlorine?
It’s important to remember that while UV-C light and chlorine (or bromine) can both be effective in purifying water, they work in different ways and work alongside each other. One is not a complete substitute for the other. UV-C works by killing microorganisms directly, while chlorine (and bromine) work by releasing a chemical the kills microorganisms. It is always recommended you use UV light and a sanitizer together for optimal water health.
Why is my ClearRay® light flashing on my Jacuzzi® Hot Tub?
The ClearRay® bulb has a limited lifespan so it may be flashing because it is due to be replaced. Another reason why the ClearRay® bulb may be flashing is if the system is not functioning properly. This could be an error or malfunction due to a variety of reasons: a problem with the power supply, a malfunctioning component, or an issue with the wiring. Another reason your ClearRay® light may be flashing may be due to reduced water flow. The ClearRay® system may not be able to function properly if there is insufficient water flow. Lastly, some models have a sleep mode function whereby all the lights and some other functions are turned off. If your hot tub is in this mode, the ClearRay® light may flash.

Is ClearRay® an ozonator?
ClearRay® is a brand of UV-C water purification system which uses ultraviolet light to purify the water by killing bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms that affect water quality. An ozonator, on the other hand, uses ozone to purify the water. Ozone is a form of oxygen that is highly reactive and can be used to kill microorganisms to help sanitize the water. ClearRay® and ozonates are different types of water purification systems. They can both be used to help sanitise water, but they work in different ways.
